To enter the world of DragonMud you need to use software application known as
a "Client". This creates a connection to DragonMud, rather like how your browser connects to this web page.
There are *MANY* software clients available, and while they all perform
roughly the same function, they can look very different. You may have to
experiment before you find a client that you are most comfortable with.
- tinyfugue --- is the "Official" client for DragonMud, popular with several of the 'techies' and 'oldbies' of DragonMud. Originally written for UNIX, it now runs on windows, mac, and linux. You can downloaded from http://tinyfugue.sourceforge.net/.
- Pueblo/UE --- has special compatibility with DragonMud and may offer an experience that other clients will not. You can find Pueblo/UE at http://pueblo.sourceforge.net/
- Other Clients --- exist in great numbers... each has benefits and
weaknesses. You are encouraged to experiment and find a client that suits you
best. A list of clients can be found at: The MUD Connector.
- raw telnet --- The last option for connecting to DragonMud is with raw telnet. This is a brutally primitive way to connect to MUDs, but in situations where you can not download software (or don't trust other people's clients) you can use this option.
- On Linux/Unix, open a shell window
- On a mac, open an Applications/Terminal window
- On Windows use [Start->Run] or open a windows CMD window
Then type: telnet dragonmud.com 4201
